NB: in January 2001 (!), FIFA decided not to recognize matches against FIFA or continental selections as full internationals, classifying them as exhibition games, and scratched all caps and goals earned in these matches from the records. After the French and Italian FAs refused to follow this ruling, the Brazilian FA eventually decided to keep the match on November 6, 1968 vs FIFA (Brazil won 2-1) in the records as well, which is reflected in the above ranking; affected players would be: Rivelino (1 goal) and Tostão (1 goal).

Data checked and confirmed by Iván Soter (Brazil). Prepared and maintained by Roberto Mamrud for the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation Author: Roberto Mamrud (robert@elsitio.net)
